#SMPWedding101 – Sourcing Wedding Decor Online

When planning my wedding, I loved searching for just the right pieces of decor to deck our tables and bring my vision to life. But finding those missing pieces of your pretty puzzle isn’t always easy. Design studio and online shop esselle SF is here to help with advice on sourcing those stylish add-ons for your special day – read on and check out their chic site; you may find just what you’ve been looking for!

1. Know Your Venue

Sourcing the most suitable decor and details will be much easier if you know the parameters of the space as well as what is allowed. For example, many venues do not allow candles with an open flame, so know that information can help you avoid having to purchase and then return. Some reception and ceremony sites may have a strong breeze that can blow away anything that doesn’t weigh much. Make sure whatever table top items you are using can stand up to any wind and weather variations.

2. Inquire Pricing Options

Find out if a store offers trade discounts and/or bulk pricing prior to purchasing. Esselle gives a trade discount as well as a discount on bulk orders, so be sure to take advantage of these type of savings. Keep in mind that often times your florist are the people who supply tabletop decor, such as centerpiece vessels, or candle holders. He/she may get better deals through large wedding decor shops such as Accent Decor or Cultural Intrigue.

3. Plan Accordingly With Timing

If you have a full-service wedding planner, this may not be a big deal as he/she should have a tentative schedule of when to make decor purchases. If you don’t have a planner, definitely keep a reasonable timeline to source and place orders. Ideally we suggest checking 2-3 months prior to the big date to confirm if all the decor you need are in fact in stock and ready to ship. If an order requires production time, be sure to reach out to vendors for an estimated turnaround time.

4. Be Super Specific When Searching

Whether you are using Pinterest, Google, Etsy, or Instagram for searching for the finishing touches for your wedding design, using specific keywords or hashtags may yield more unique decor companies than big box stores which dominate popular key words. After distinguishing the look and feel of your wedding, use as many of those descriptive adjectives in your product search.

5. Double Duty

Get more value out of your purchase by sourcing products that have the versatility to be used in your home after the wedding. For example we have place card holders that also doubles as photo/art print holders!

6. Check Stationery + Signage Sizes

When applicable, ask your stationery designer signage dimensions and paper weight. A typical place card holder may hold up to 80#-110# cover stock while very few on the market can hold up to 265# or more. You don’t want to set your heart on a cardholder style only to find out later that it can’t hold the signage properly!

The Gazebo Wedding of Your Dreams

We first met Jamie and Alex with their Venice engagement session that left us with a serious case of wanderlust. Luckily they brought that same sense of Italian charm to their San Diego wedding at the incredible Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The pros behind Thecablookfotolab and Audrey Alba Films captured the must-see gallery (and film below!) guaranteed to start your weekend off just right.

From The Bride…We wanted to get married in Italy, but found an amazing venue closer to home that was even better, because it felt like a million miles away, but was actually in our hometown!

In planning the wedding, we were aiming for an effortless, yet elegant, vibe. We think our vendors hit it out of the park!

From Blanc Floral DesignWithin the first fifteen minutes of meeting the Jamie, I felt a strong connection and knew that working with her would be a wonderful experience that would lead to a beautiful wedding day for her, her fiancée, and their guests.

Prior to our first meeting, their June date had been set and the Grand Del Mar had been selected as the venue for their wedding and reception. It is a beautiful, spacious resort – the landscape and architecture romantically evoke a visit to a European village near the Mediterranean coast.

We decided to capitalize on the venue’s qualities and have her wedding and reception feel as though they were held at a Mediterranean villa surrounded by ornamental gardens. The bride and groom were wed under a gazebo into which a custom-made chuppah was built. We added lace and draped her father tallis for a personal touch.

The color palette consisted of ivory, blush, mauve, and burgundy. For florals, dark fruits such as cherries, plums, and grapes were integrated to add volume, color intensity, and lushness. Arrangements were placed in weathered gray urns which were sourced on a visit to New York. For the reception, guests enjoyed the night dining al fresco at long communal tables from Stecklair Events. Strings of market lights were suspended to provide soft, warm illumination. Custom burgundy napkins, woven by artisans in Oaxaca, Mexico contributed dramatic color and texture to the natural-feeling tablescape. At each place setting, a sprig of rosemary brought a touch of green and further elicited the Mediterranean.

To provide the event with a cohesive identity, graphic elements were designed and applied to a wide range of collaterals including welcome baskets for hotel guests, menus, place cards, and – the bride’s favorite – a backdrop for the wedding cake table (which the couple loved so much, it now sits in their home). All our efforts for this wedding were done with admiration for the sweet, beautiful couple and we are honored that they trusted us to design it.

From Ivy Robinson EventsModern flair and back yard soiree merge on the coast of Wilmington, NC. The branding started with a grey and white pattern introduced in the save the dates and carried throughout from the invitations printed on metal, yes metal and mailed in a box. The napkins, custom linens, tent boarder, welcome bags were all branded with this pattern. The wedding day kicked off with pre ceremony cocktails in a lounge area on the property. Guests sipped on Salted Meyer Lemon-Sage Presse (non alcoholic), A Shade of Gray Cocktail and Sparkling Cava. They then shifted to the point of the property were ghost chairs and huge arrangements greeted guests with the tunes of an acoustic guitarist. Cocktail hour followed the ceremony where guests found their metal escort cards prior entering the tent for a sit down dinner. Orchids, mirrored table tops and mirrored chandeliers adorned the tent. The pool was covered with a clear top and turned into a dance floor. Simply Irresistible Band kept the floor packed all night. Guests dined on the following and the cake was also hand designed to match everything! We even drained the hot tub and put fam mixologist Bob Peters in there shaking up cocktails.

Leave it to Valley & Company Events to deliver the perfect autumnal wedding with details every fall bride will surely want to steal. The couple gave their event designers free reign to create a “warm and cozy celebration” and they totally delivered. Think copper mugs filled with mulled cider, greenery garland, gold lettered invites by Laura Hooper, and fresh plum place cards as an ode to the season. Cozy right up with the photos from the lens of O’Malley Photographers.

From Valley & Company EventsWe had so much fun working with Savannah and Steve planning and designing their intimate Seattle autumn wedding. They gave us carte blanche to surprise them with charming details and experiences, giving us the parameters of desiring a warm and cozy celebration.

With many of their guests traveling from the East Coast and Colorado, we knew they envisioned a wedding that was quintessentially Seattle, showing off the character of their new home. Guests were greeted at a century-old industrial building in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood with warmed mulled cider cocktails in copper mugs and Spanish guitar playing in the background. The ceremony space was draped in gorgeous Northwest greenery garlands, peppered with magnolia leaves with hints of brown.

We incorporated fresh plums with calligraphy as table numbers and a subtle fall color story was told through the slate linens and autumnal centerpieces. We surprised Savannah and Steve by having their crest embroidered onto hemstitch napkins that we cinched with silk ribbon that sat atop each guest’s place setting. Guests dined on a decadent fall offerings, drank delicious wines, and danced the night away to a 7-piece band. It was such a pleasure to work with Savannah and Steve and looking back on their photos is so meaningful!

Guests Stayed in Safari Tents For Their ‘Desert Chic’ Wedding

If you’re the kind of couple who’s looking to buck tradition and design a nontraditional day, take notes from this bride and groom. They brought their guests to the Utah desert, where they enjoyed incredible natural scenery and luxe safari tents as on-site accommodations. Of course, they called on the pros at Under Canvas for help bring their desert chic vision to life, and Brumley & Wells didn’t miss a single beat.

From The Bride…When envisioning our perfect wedding my fiancé and I both wanted a natural setting – a backdrop that was grand yet understated…where the minimal wedding details could stand on their own. We felt strongly that any artificial decorations couldn’t hold a candle to the beauty in the living landscape. So we set out on a journey to find a “natural chapel” in the sky or at the edge of the earth. A place where our family and friends from all corners of the country could gather together. Growing up I would take family road trips through the southwest desert and the area holds a special magic for me – luckily my fiancé felt the same. We found a beautiful location at Moab Under Canvas; a serene plot of land overlooking Arches National Monument where our guests could stay on site in canvas safari tents and wake up to the same beautiful sunrise that we had fallen in love with. It was the perfect setting for a friend/family reunion and celebration of our love. As an aside, my (now) husband and I have known each other for 14 years and have been living together in NYC for 12 years – so this was not exactly a surprise or formal affair but more of a ceremonial “coming together” to rejoice the past and future.

The color palette was pulled directly from the landscape – soft rose, red and tan of the desert sand; sun-bleached whites and greens from the juniper trees and sage brush. The wedding party colors followed suit; the ladies in white and the men in white, tan, and grey. The style was minimal and understated with a focus on strong geometries and the simple movement of the white canvas blowing in the wind. Both of us being architects, we wanted to create a sense of space in the expansive desert but with a light hand that would respect the natural surroundings. We designed a procession through three gathering spaces: First the Tipi Marquis with lounge seating, bar and classic western films projected on the canvas with a nearby fire pit for s’mores and stargazing. A second path led to the ceremony site: a natural vista with stunning views leading out from our deluxe safari tent. And third, the reception area where we designed and built a temporary platform floating over the desert under a canopy of garden string lights. All connected with lantern-lit paths. Each area was connected by a lantern-lit path.

One of our favorite moments had to be the first dance ending with the full moon rising over the desert behind our guests (unplanned). It was heavenly. Music plays a major role in our lives and we spent a lot of time gathering “The Big Day” Playlist so we had an endless supply of music to dance late into the night.

See A Wedding Workshop Inspired by Garden Roses

When the ever-so-talented Holly Chapple hosts a class for floral designers you know you’re in for a world of pretty. And this June workshop inspired by none other than David Austin garden roses? Well, it certainly didn’t disappoint. For each and every one of these creations belongs to the class that crafted them and thankfully Jodi and Kurt Miller captured it all to revisit time and time again in The Vault!

From Holly ChappleThis photo shoot was inspired by David Austin garden roses, and Holly’s recent journey to London. Holly teaches her Chapel Designer workshops in the UK, Australia, throughout the USA and at her farm Hope Flower Farm. Holly brought many treasures home from her most recent visit to London, she was there this April to teach the London Chapel Designers conference. The garden rose bunting and matching doilies were purchased at Hampton Court Palace, these items and their beautiful garden rose pattern inspired Holly to create a shoot based around the items she gathered in London and her beloved David Austin roses. Vintage silver containers were gathered in London and were also used in the tablescape. On the table you will find lovely salt and pepper shakers, silver tea strainers, tea sets and gorgeous silver all purchased in London. The fact that her guest teacher Robbie Honey was coming from London helped to Solidify her desire to create an English Rose Garden – Tea party shoot. Baker and food stylist Sarah Orman also from London, went about creating traditional English tea party treats. I Sarah could bring an authentic tea party vibe to the shoot.

All florals were dripping with david austin garden roses, peonies, and vine. We wanted to create a design that looked a natural trellis. This area would be the perfect place for our table scape. The arbor custom made at the workshop was covered in vine and floral. The structure was a fabulous group project led by Holly Chapple. Robbie taught the designers about cascading bridal bouquets and the tradition of wiring stems. Custom stationery was designed by Sarah Kate Couture who did custom sketches of garden roses which complimented the bunting.

Chic Wine Country Wedding With Pops of Pink

A wedding day in Sonoma means good food, flowing wine, and stunning vineyard views as far as the eye can see. Dana and Charles gave their guests that quintessential wine country experience and the result was the ultimate celebration anchored in Greek Orthodox tradition. Don’t miss a moment from the lens of Jesse Leake inside The Vault.

From Rebecca Johnson of Kristi Amoroso Special Events… Dana and Charles were excited to plan a wedding in Sonoma as this is one of their favorite places to come, spend time and enjoy great wine and food, on the weekends and they were excited to welcome many of their guests from the East Coast where they both grew up.

Finding the perfect venue was very important to them. They were looking for something unique, private, and modern. The Glass House was ideal as it is surrounded by the vineyards that were so important to the bride and groom, but also offered the highest level of sophistication and elegance. The groom’s Greek heritage was felt in their hosting of the ceremony at the beautiful Nativity of Christ, Greek Orthodox Church.

After a traditional Greek ceremony, guests were transported by shuttles, drinks in hand, to the reception venue in Sonoma. Actively involved with the florist, the bride added some sentimental touches such as a non-traditional guest book where guests signed rocks and put in a glass vase, family photos at the cocktail reception, a well thought out and designed back bar with uniquely displayed items and even a wine tasting bar with wines made from the surrounding vineyards. The cocktail reception also featured a wonderful raw bar and the guest house had a cheese charcuterie room, both were devoured by the guests.

Dinner was set around the pool with the Jazz vibe band, Ever Music group, playing in the background. As night fell and the vineyard’s rows were illuminated, the guests partied late into the night, snacking on late night savory bites, desserts and cake while the DJ spun party tunes until the last guests departed this amazing wedding event, fulfilled.

From the Bride… Being a wedding planner, I knew exactly how I wanted our wedding to be: intimate, meaningful and beautiful. In order to create the wedding of our dreams, I chose a faraway destination, the French Riviera. For the venue, I found a stunning, Art Deco villa turned five-star, boutique hotel sitting directly on the Mediterranean Sea that F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in while he wrote Tender is The Night. With a location that had a mesmerizing background and historical significance, I chose to add many unique details to make our wedding truly unforgettable.

For the theme, I chose to compliment the surrounding Mediterranean Sea by utilizing shades of blue. From the custom, acrylic drink stirrers that spelled out “oui,” watercolor menus that also functioned as place cards, custom watercolor crest, miniature satchels filled with dried lavender to toss during the ceremony recessional, the Scotch and cigar bar, late night bites of mini burgers and pommes frites, my Monique Lhuillier dress, and the French wording on our invitations, each of these details (plus many more) paid tribute to our personalities, our hometown of Houston, Texas, and the destination.
