An Engagement Shoot Captures Touching Moments

An Engagement Shoot Captures Touching Moments

From Amelia, the photographer:
With engagement shoots, it always starts with a radiantly happy couple. From there we establish a mood for the pictures. For Skye & John’s portraits, we wanted a modern updated melange of studio-style imagery and classic outdoor portraits in the wild of Virginia. This was not just for a mix of styles that suited their personalities, it was quite practical. Virginia in the spring can be quite chilly and blustery. By starting in the studio, we eased into pictures in a more comfortable, warm environment. Another consideration for engagement pictures is what the couple will wear. Wardrobe is crucial for pictures! What one wears becomes a focal feature in a photograph and the wardrobe needs to tell the same story as the emotions we are evoking: romantic, delicate and cohesive.

From John, the groom:
I’ve always been more drawn to candid photography, when you can capture a “genuine” moment. There’s a warmth and an honesty to a picture of people who aren’t aware (or perhaps less aware) that a camera is pointed in their direction. Which is why my personal favorite pictures from this shoot are the ones where Skye and I are laughing in between the serious shots. They contain moments that I can remember and evoke an emotion I can feel.

Clean And Simple Take On A Classic White Wedding

From the photographer:
The inspiration behind this shoot was minimal elegance – a design that would speak to the bride who prefers all things natural and understated. We wanted an effortless look with a super sleek updo, glamourous makeup, and a dress with modern and simple lines. Since the dress paired well with both bold accessories and simple elements, we decided to explore both by switching up earrings and hair accessories. The little bit of sparkle from the shoes lent to a black-tie feel.

We felt it was important for us to keep the table design clean and simple, with some unexpected elements mixed in. The subtle geometric accent in the white linen was a perfect clean slate, with just the right amount of texture. The linens also matched the white florals, keeping everything light and ethereal. Clear chairs mixed with the simplicity of the chargers and flatware, gave the table its modern and effortless look. Neutral toned napkins added a soft moodiness. The white leather napkin rings, with guest names handwritten in calligraphy, served as a unique element and added texture next to vellum menus. Paired with minimal greenery and candles, these elements helped evoke an urban mood perfect for a loft wedding.

The white and green floral color combination tends to be considered a classic and traditional choice. Since we wanted to create a modern inspiration, monochromatic floral arrangements were used with lots of texture and shape. From clean lines to luxe elements, this inspiration shoot was a reminder that minimal and modern can also be unique, elegant, and quite magical.

Organic Bridal Looks Beautifully Interpreted

From the designer:
My concept for the shoot was born out of a desire to balance structure with romantic elements. Sometimes ‘structure’ conjures up feelings of coldness or starkness. So I wanted to bring in warmth and texture, while keeping the focus on a bride (with added floral elements.

We began with a natural and soft look for the makeup, then later added a stronger color, accenting our bride’s natural features. For hair, we started with the structured but soft waves of a 1940’s Hollywood style hair, then tied her hair into a simple ponytail displaying those soft waves.

We decided to keep the focus of the gowns soft, textural and ethereal: with a Grecian inspired gown by Catherine Deane, 3D textural flowers by Halfpenny London and a lacy but modern gown by Flora Bridal. The invitation suite was the perfect introduction to the shoot, with its mix of clean and modern typography, airy calligraphy, and warm colors. All of the other elements made a decision about the flowers easy: fresh and subtle combinations. We used an updated take on the white bouquet, with creamy tones and soft beige with a subtle hint of blush. Then added a more colorful but muted option with warmer pinks accented with creamy beige.

Consider These Things Before Picking Your Wedding Shoe

Yes, picking your dress is probably first on your list of things to do once you get engaged. But somewhere close to the top of that list will be choosing your wedding shoe. Before you go shopping, here are some suggestions by L.K. Bennett on things to consider:

Does the style of shoe work with the style of your dress?

Your shoe should compliment the general feel of your wedding dress. If you’re opting for a vintage gown, then you may want to consider wedding shoes to fit the era of the gown. All lace and with a bohemian vibe? Then maybe a 1960s inspired platform would be a good choice. Thinking more of a modern slip dress? Then consider a shoe that harkens back to those worn by the leading ladies of the golden age of cinema in the 1930s. Be sure to take into account the length of your dress. If you have an extra-long train, you may consider a simpler shoe to prevent possible snags or trips.

Will it Match Your Venue?

Being practical is probably not your number one priority when drooling over shoe choices – but it probably should be. Considering your venue and the area where your entrance will be taking place are a must. If you’re having a beach wedding where the terrain may present an issue, you might want to consider a wedge or lower heel. If the venue has a grand staircase, opting for a flat shoe may prevent a tumble.

What is Your Personal Style?

A key to staying radiant all day long on your wedding day is to make sure you are as comfortable as possible.  Keep this in mind when deciding on what is going to adorn your feet. You may be someone who can run a marathon in pumps. If so, then go ahead and make your entrance in 4-inch pumps. If not, then be sure and choose a heel height that is one you know you can be in for long periods. No matter what you choice, it is always a good idea to wear your shoes around the house for several hours prior to your wedding day to ensure a blissful fit.

Why Not Pick More Than One Pair?

Another fun and practical option is to switch up your shoes from ceremony to reception. What if you are getting married in a church or synagogue and then afterward you are having a backyard reception? Going from glamorous to casual in your footwear would make sense (and of course then you get to buy two pairs of shoes).

How Much are You Willing to Spend?

Your budget is something you always need to keep in mind throughout every phase of planning your wedding. There is no right or wrong amount to spend on wedding shoes. If bridal fashion is an important part of the wedding for you, and you feel the freedom to splurge, then go for it! After all, it’s not every day you get married. If other aspects of the wedding are more important to you, take into consideration buying shoes you can wear after the wedding. Shoes with shimmering sequins might not get as much wear as a lovely nude-colored shoe would after your wedding.

Who Is In Your Circle?

Last, but certainly not least, reach out to your trusted circle of friends. Let’s face it, wedding planning can feel overwhelming with all the complex decisions you have to juggle at once. Making sure every detail lands perfectly on your wedding day takes patience, planning and luck. Relying on wise counsel is essential for every successful wedding. It’s totally understandable if shoe shopping is not in your wheelhouse. Stick to your strengths and lean on others you trust to help you select the shoe that looks and feels the best.

No matter what your choice is, it should be a shoe you love that makes you feel wonderful! Thanks to LK Bennett for this great advice on finding the right wedding shoes.

Wedding Wishes Come True In A Vineyard Setting

From the Bride:
It was really important for us to have our wedding feel like one big family dinner, so right off the bat we knew we wanted a family-style layout for dinner. It was hard to arrange with limited space – but with a little hard work and determination, we managed to accomplish it! To see all of our people side by side with one another was probably one of our favorite parts of the day. We’re so glad we stood firm with our vision – even when people told us it wouldn’t work.

My biggest piece of advice to othercouples would be to invest in the details that are the most meaningful to both of you. Don’t let outside expectations (or even ones you put on yourselves) dictate what you incorporate into your big day. It is your day, so create what appeals to you – and have fun!

A Couple Shoot Created From A Blending Of Beautiful Contrasts

From the photographer:
This styled shoot was inspired by the delicate balance between the ying and the yang. We wanted to capture the mixture of two different energies and two differents appearances. I was blown away by the fact that these two souls became one in an amazing way – their intimacy was really powerful. Every movement was natural, as they easily forgot the camera. Every detail was based on minimalism, softness, and delicateness.

Although the details were minimalistic, we balanced that with a cozy environment created with wood chairs and table, candles, and a lot of natural light. I choose to shoot at the Studio Quotidien because doing it was a challenge for me. It is often hard to capture emotion in a neutral, minimal environment. Here I believe it made the images even more impactful.

The artistic director and I were inspired by autumn because we believe that this is the most beautiful season. The dried leaves made the floral bouquet even more attractive. They became the focal point, but made the roses appear even more alive. We hope you enjoy our shoot and its message that love has no borders.

A Beautiful Blend of Bridal And Fashion

For over ten years, Once Wed has had the pleasure of inspiring brides from all over the world. During that time, weddings have evolved from a day including a ballgown and a required list of bridal elements, to a day where a bride can create a vision customized to suit her personality. We have loved seeing this evolution, because it means we can use our platform to share some of the wonderful creativity that comes from this freedom of choice. The lines between bridal and fashion have definitely blurred, and we are excited to share new ideas as they emerge.

From the photographer:
Our overall intent was to put together a shoot that told a story of light and shadows inspired by the space of McCune Mansion. Admiring the works of painters like Rembrandt and Vermeer (who mastered using darkness to the shape the light), we set our utilize their techniques to create a narrative of color and luminescence – with a celestial essence.

Additional inspiration came from the romantic silhouettes of Dior Haute Couture 2017 and the elegant draping of Valentino.  Our styling approach was slightly whimsical and effortless. We used gowns that had dramatic movement, yet a gentle reaction to the light within the French Baroque setting. The result was a soft blurring of the line between fashion and bridal imagery that we fell in love with!

Your Sandals Wedding Is Over – Now Relax and Enjoy Your Honeymoon In St. Lucia

Over the last couple of months it has been great to be able to share the wonderful experience we had doing a shoot for Sandals Resorts in St. Lucia. It was easy to create stunning images for our audience because we were surrounded by the natural beauty of the island. The only thing that surpassed this beauty was the warmth and hospitality of the staff at each of the three Sandals resorts. Each of the resorts offered something a little different, but is would be hard to choose a favorite.  The good news is that you don’t have to choose.

With Sandals Play at 3 Program, you get a mega-vacation that includes 3 resorts for the price of one! You get access to all the beaches and amenities of every resort. Your dining options include 27 restaurants. You can extend your diving experiences to exotic underwater playgrounds at two additional resorts. Enjoy the entertainment that’s ever-changing from night to night at any of the three resorts. To make the experience even better, complimentary round-trip transportation between all resorts is part of the Sandals Luxury Included® experience.

Whichever resort you decide upon, you will be truly at home. At Sandals Grande St. Lucian, the resort is located on its very own peninsula, cradled on the west by Rodney Bay (with the calmest waters in Saint Lucia) and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean. This resort showcases awe-inspiring panoramic views that will linger in your heart forever. Volcanic mountains draped in blankets of green rise majestically from the sea, and a sheltered mile-long beach is an open invitation for days of endless water play.

Sandals Halcyon Beach lies in the midst of a tropical utopia. Majestic palms line a pristine beach and verdant mountains rise from a turquoise sea. You will spend your days in a charming and intimate sanctuary that’s the essence of its name – tranquil, peaceful and calm. This is a true Garden of Eden, a place where your senses are caressed by sea breezes, inviting ocean waters, and fragrant tropical blooms. Experience the Beachfront Honeymoon Butler Suites, with private deck and plunge pool and indulge in gourmet dining at six specialty restaurants (if you decide to ever leave your room)!

A third wonderful choice is Sandals Regency La Toc. It is located on a magnificent 210-acre estate set on a half-mile, crescent-shaped beach which is cradled by exotic coral bluffs, lush hillsides and rolling fairways. Featuring a challenging executive-style golf course, stunning oceanfront suites, and the private enclave of the Sunset Bluff Village, this resort is recognized as the most sparkling jewel in the islands.

So our journey is complete (for now). We have been able to show you how wonderful your Destination Wedding can be with Sandals Resorts! Once you have decided to travel to St. Lucia for your special day, your Sandals team will work out all the details for you. All you need to do is arrive (we recommend a couple of days early to just enjoy yourself and your guests are you wind down), have the day of your dreams, and then stay for a fabulous honeymoon!

Gorgeous Real Wedding in Tuscany, Italy (Fireworks Included)

From the event planner:
Nat and Nico met 8 years ago, in their last year of university in London. For some reason they had never previously crossed paths. But in one chance encounter everything changed, and they ‘ve been inseparable ever since. Tuscany, Italy has a special place in their hearts. They travelled in Tuscany together before, and loved everything from its rolling hills, cypress-lined country roads, medieval hilltop villages, comfort cuisine, and of course the vino! After two trips around the region with me, they chose Castello la Leccia as their main wedding venue. We helped them arrange everything for them and their guests from all over the world enjoy a truly extraordinary experience!
